The Last of Les Grandes Dames 8/31/2010

And so the old world rolls over, giving way to the new. Gone are waiters who know what crossed fork and knife on a plate mean, what the knife and fork aligned together signify. The waiters who serve ladies first and wait until everyone at the table is finised before clearing plates. But not here. At this, the last of the great NY restaurants, the service is old-fashioned, which means impeccable. The food, although not terribly inventive is wonderfully prepared. The room is beautiful and resplendid with flowers. This is THE place to go for a taste of the best, a representative of another era when life was lived more graciously. more

Poor Service, Poor Staff 1/12/2010

I would recommend another location. There are several other French Restaurants with staff and managers who are attentive and not full of themselves. Pros: Not much Cons: Rude Waitstaff more

Enchanting! 9/30/2009

I went to La Grenouille for the first time recently, and it certainly won't be my last visit! I have never been to a restaurant with such impeccable service, exquisite food and GORGEOUS ambiance! I felt as though I was transported to another world, and it was enchanting. I cannot wait to go back! more

What An Event! 9/21/2009

Had reservations at 9pm on a Saturday. Usually, I don't eat this late but that was the only time available. It was my 1 year wedding anniversary so it was worth the wait. When I arrived, I had to wait about 10 mins or so. I was placed at the very first table on the left, near bar. Wasn't ideal as I wanted something in the back but took what was available. The menu was fairly small. We picked the price fix at $89. Had great foie graus as appetizer. Melted in my mouth! Main course was the lobster and monkfish. Not the best lobster I ever had but was very good. Was made in a light cream pea sauce. Had frog legs for the very first time and it was amazing!! great seasoning, light (italian style). My wife ordered a salad. Was very surprised on the portion. Huge! for a salad and very tasty. She ordered the steak. Wasn't impressed really. Too chewy. The portions overall are very small (as all French food is served) so I was expecting small portions. Don't come here starving. Eat a late lunch at least or a snack prior. Wasn't crazy about the dessert. Ordered just ice cream. Couldn't do the cake/pasteries. I ate too much bread! The little breads they give you are very declious! The service was right on. This is definitely a place to bring your wife or girlfriend for a romantic nite. The restaurant seemed more cater to bigger crowds as a lot of the tables were made for groups of 6 or more. Much older crowd (I think me and my wife were the youngest). Very classy, elegant. My only complaint was that it was a bit stuffy in there. Elbow touching close! A little too close for my taste. That was the table I was in. At least no one on the other side, just a mirrored wall. I wish we could of sat towards the back but it was late and I was hungry so I was not going to be picky. Overall, great atmosphere. Very pricey so won't expect to come back here for quite some time! Also, be prepared to double tip! Waiter and Captain. If you are looking for romance and want to really take your time eating and don't mind spending a lot of money, this is your place! Average guys like me can't afford it but for a special occasion, it's worth it! Pros: Food, Service Cons: Cramped, small, expensive more

La Grenouille is one of my favorite restaurants in the city!! I have not been there in a while so my boyfriend and I decided to go last night for dinner. The entire experience was amazing. Huge Let Down 7/12/2009

After reading countless positive reviews I was totally pumped about going to La Grenouille. Fine dining probably my favorite treat and my excitement was palpable. La Grenouille, however, was a humongous disappointment. The Food was so-so. I didn't linger on your tongue and make you mull over the meal for a week (which is a must when you're spending $255). Furthermore, the portions were almost nonexistent. My foie gras was edible, but the filet mignon failed to melt in my mouth. Mediocrity was the name of the game. The service was dry and callous, and the ambiance was passable. In retrospect, La Grenouille comes off as a casual dining locale for the mega-rich. Nothing Special, and exorbitantly expensive. If money is not an object pop over for a nibble on a Wednesday, but Ultimately, I've had much better meals and better experiences for half the the price. I will continue to seek out fabulous meals, but La Grenouille is definitely off of that list. more

food is pricey but worth every bite!!! 11/24/2008

So it was my cousin's bachelorette dinner/weekend and they decided on an intimate meal here. It was highly recommended by one of her friends who also went. \r \r The food is pricey but worth every bite! I ordered the lobster bisque appetizer and the braised duck breast as my main dish. The wine we had was excellent and the service was impeccable. Our wait staff was very attentive to all our needs. Needless to say, we tried many of the desserts and laughed ourselves silly with fantastic conversation. \r \r Delicious food. I love French food and I applaud the head chef and the sommelier for their wonderful food/wine pairings. The restaurant is an excellent choice for an intimate gathering or an intimate night out in New York.\r Pros: food, service, ambiance more

Perfect Experience... 11/2/2008

It has everything going for it: location, service, bustling ambiance, an ever evolving menu, an extensive wine list, and a very dedicated staff. To be able to open something at this level and in essence ""own"" all the parts of what makes a great restaurant great would be a heady undertaking. And one thing is for sure, the dishes are created and cooked with access to some of the best ingredients in the United States. Reserve well ahead, and as with many restaurants in New York?.. Pros: food, romantic, wine list more
