Everything I loved about my recent dinner at La Grenouille:
- Flowers! Dozens of beautiful, fresh bouquets filled the restaurant and made it smell amazing
- Live Jazz! They played throughout the evening
- Bill! He was so attentive and friendly
- Soups! The split pea soup and the onion soup were best we've ever had
- Champagne! The whole restaurant got a free glass at one point
It's a gorgeous, cozy, romantic spot. The food was overall was very good. My only complaint was that the chicken was a bit dry, although the sauce it came with was scrumptious. To make up for it, Bill brought us dessert on the house -- a decadent chocolate grand marnier mousse. I will absolutely come back!

Very underwhelming meal for a $600 bill. They fill you up on bread type things in the beginning, the appetizers and entrees were similar to what you'd expect from a wedding reception.
Go here for drinks or first seating. The jazz was nice but not worth the added price built into foodHelpful 1Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 30, 20241 check-in
This place is a must visit if you LOVE flowers. The decor was stunning, florals everywhere and the gorgeous scent had me under a spell. It smelled so beautiful inside the whole time and of course, the food was DELICIOUS. I'm so happy with how the night went, one of the servers even sang happy birthday to me and they were all VERY sweet and attentive. The meal was lovely--We had oysters, split pea soup, "Old Blue Eyes" roasted chicken with champagne sauce, and filet mignon with truffled sauce. For dessert I wanted to try the soufflé trio and we got to pick the flavors. The manager said we could and SHOULD come back later in the night to enjoy some live jazz, doesn't that sound fun?! I absolutely need to come back to breathe in all the wonderful flowers and to have some yummy soft soufflé with my coffee--très magnifique!

Absolutely loved seeing the abundance of flowers the restaurant uses as decorations all around the place. Flowers are fresh and can be smelled upon entering. Food was also amazing and loved how servers walk Aldine with baskets of fresh bread.

We've been coming to this wonderful establishment for years and it never disappoints. One of the most gorgeous dining rooms in the city, always a superb dining experience, sublime dishes , impeccable service and a music entertainment is a really nice touch.

This is a classic French restaurant that serves traditional food like the French onion soup, La meunière sole, and soufflé. The decor is also set up to a traditional french salon with red velvet seats and fresh roses everywhere.
The food, ambience, and service all makes you think you've transported from NYC to old glam Paris, a wonderful and fabulous experience.
my husband and I went with the a la carte menu and started the meal off with complementary amuse bouche pastry, and ordered the French onion soup, steak entree, La meunière sole, chocolate soufflé, and le four petite pastry to go. Everything was delicious, the le four petite pastry was spectacular. Before we left, the owner provided complementary champagne. It was the perfect touch to our dinner.
Service was really great. The waiters were so kind and explained the menu with such patience. They also offer to split the French onion soup and soufflé in half, without judgement, because hubby and I only order one of each to try.
That being said, this restaurant has a more formal dress code. My husband wore a jacket and I wore a dress. The price is also fairly hefty, but reasonable for the ambience, service, and food.
This is a place I'd recommend for anyone looking for a classic French dining experience!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 800155800Dec 6, 2022Updated review
A+ all the way. Had come here 4 years ago and can't believe it took me 4 whole years to return! There was a 3-year pandemic in between, but nonetheless, this was and still remains one of my top-5 restaurants in NYC.
If you're looking for a sceney vibe and crowd, then look much much further. La Grenouille is an institution- 60 years of business to be exact. This is old-school NY meets old-world Paris. Very old crowd but sophisticated and distinguished, and you just feel important being in that restaurant. You won't find any Gen-Z tiktokers in here...
The food remains top-notch, and service is out of this world. You won't have a bad dish, but the mist-gets are the Dover sole and the chocolate soufflé. I also had the caviar this time, and the Osetra was divine.
Pro tip: they prepare the Dover sole 2 ways but also have a 3rd preparation (my personal favorite). Because it's made-to-order and contains specific ingredients, you must distinguish that you wish to have the sole prepared with the mushrooms at the time you book your reservation. You can't go wrong with any preparation, but the mushroom preparation is epic.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Feb 5, 2020Previous reviewThe hype is real about La Grenouille. It has such a traditional French feel, and you really feel like you've escaped to 1950's Paris.
I came here on a second date (major points for him), and was astounded at how formal and elegant everything was. From the flowers to the tables to the wallpaper, the ambiance can't be beat. Upon opening the doors to the restaurant, I walked into a coat check, which was separate from the restaurant itself. When I pulled back the curtain and walked into the restaurant, I was immediately greeted by the Captain, who was so polite and showed me to my table, which he graciously pulled out from the booth so that I could get in.
I can't say enough good things about the service here. Honestly, I was a little wary of how they would treat two 25-year olds, but we were treated like movie stars. My only ding is that they weren't as forthcoming with the water refills, but that's about it.
The Captain and waiter rotated coming over to our table, and you could see the Captain constantly wandering around the restaurant, making sure everything was perfection. We had no choice but to get the pre-fixe due to the timing of our dinner (7:30 on a Tuesday), but I'm so glad we did.
We started with a palette cleanser of a tangy amuse bouche. For my appetizer, I ordered the Saffron Lobster Bisque with grilled scallops and shrimp. My date ordered the smoked salmon blini with caviar, which also came with generous helpings of lobster (not denoted on the menu). Both were excellent.
For our mains, my date encouraged me to get the dover sole, as it's the best anywhere. I had never tried it, but, when in Rome, right? I am SO glad I took his advice. There were 2 options for how it would be prepared, and we both opted to go with the version with the mushroom sauce. Honestly, my date spoke French and was able to converse with the wait staff, so I couldn't tell you what the mushroom version was called. The dover sole arrived, and it looked like a mini burrito. I can't even describe what it tasted like, but think incredibly savory and mild. The outer portion tasted like it was wrapped in an egg mixture. I gobbled up every bite.
After our main, we were given the choice of salad or cheese plate. I opted for the cheese plate, and my date got the salad. The salad did look pretty sad when it arrived, as there were no garnishes, and it resembled a pile of weeds. My cheese plate came with 4 cheeses, bread crackers, and some fruit and nuts. I would definitely recommend that over the salad.
For dessert, he ordered the Affogato Grenouille, which was espresso with amaretto and ice cream, and I chose the chocolate souffle. Both were outstanding. I'm not a huge chocolate person, but I knew I couldn't pass up the chance for a first-class souflee.
All in all, this was one of the best meals I've ever had. Every part of it was memorable. As other reviews have stated, you need to mentally be prepared to spend ~$500 for 2 people, including tip, as they have a waiter's tip and a captain's tip. I hope to be back to this amazing establishment soon.
Oh, and he did get a 3rd date. - Nikoleta R.Manhattan, New York, NY0813Mar 22, 2024
Has it all - the service, the ambiance, the taste to back it up. Waiters are extremely attentive without being pushy. Place is filled with real flowers and the decoration makes you feel as if you're the main star in a movie. And the most important part - the food and drink, is absolutely delicious. Worth the price for the experience & taste. As someone who is not a fan of French food, La Grenouille might have won me over.

A friend took me here to meet some new friends. The setting was beautiful and cozy. We sat upstairs so we didn't get to experience the live music but the owner, Phillipe, came to sing to us. It was lovely! The food was good and their mini madeleine's were my favorite.

Very disappointed and shocked by the staff's rudeness!
First, I was laughed at for asking for a wine and cocktail menu! This was extremely unprofessional and having no wine/cocktail menu is not the norm in high end restaurants in NYC.
Second, our server did not know how to serve wine and he kept pouring wine on my sleeve!
Third, another server threw the sauce for the desert on the table and disappeared without serving it on top of the dessert.
Staff kept acting in such a pretentious and obnoxious attitude! Extremely shocked by the lack of professionalism in such an expensive restaurant.
As others have noted, NOT worth coming back!!!!!Helpful 8Thanks 1Love this 5Oh no 0
