This place used to rock!
The photo above illustrates what was Nairobi's premier water park, only rivalled in grandeur by Mombasa's Wild Waters which before Covid, had started to transition more into a Conference facility with its immense size holding thousands of delegates.
I digress.
Anyway, for anyone who was able to visit Splash located in Langata just next to Carnivore grounds, then you definitely know just how much fun the place was.
Unfortunately, it was also the site of a myriad of accidents with some fatal as the place never really had proper personnel and protocols to alleviate the accidents that used to happen more often than you'd expect at a place teeming with adrenaline junkies; who mostly used to be teens.
My favourite memories happened at The Dark Tunnel where dozens of excited young peeps would be bunched together and ile kudarana ilikuwa hapo, wacha tu.
Oh, the place is now for sale having been defunct for a few years now.
The common joke is that shida ya maji in Langata led to its downfall but truth is the several lawsuits from enraged parents of kids who got severely injured and even died (like the Odiero kid in above screenshot) as well as the place being ripe for real estate development led to its closure.
All we have now are memories.
Sweet, everlasting memories.
